Getting started. . .

Today is quite the day! I've started an on-line adventure. People may wonder - why'd she pick "Growing The Garden" as the name for her blog? Well, I have several reasons.

Last year I attended a church function to celebrate Mother's Day. It was centered around all things women and gardening was the theme. The speaker talked about us as Christian women and our very own "gardens." She used gardens as a metaphor for many different aspects of our lives.

One, how is your relationship with the Lord? Do you tend to this garden? Or, should I say, do you let Him tend to you? Is He able to use your life to produce fruit of righteousness? Are you taking in one of the most important things to cause growing - the living water, meaning God's Word? We all know that the fruit produced from a long period of drought is not really bountiful or sweet.

Two, how do you tend to your children? Are you bringing them up to be beautiful and fruitful people? Are you providing them with the right tools to succeed - not only in the secular world but in their walks with the Lord?

How about your co-caretaker? Are you being the helpmate your husband needs so that he is successful in both his growing and in his caring of your little sprouts?

And lastly, I just love to garden. I love the feel of digging in the dirt and planting something that only God can cause to grow. I love seeing all the different designs that the Designer has put together to accomplish the exact purpose He intended. Consider a rose and a tomato - both accomplish exactly what God wants. One is asthetically beautiful attracting all types of bugs to pollentate it and the other is yummy on your sandwich/salad/spaghetti.
