A New Year and Two Lost Teeth

The evening of New Year's Day ended up being a little more exciting than we had originally anticipated.

I had been after Luke to brush his teeth a little more thoroughly. He was actually getting the back ones but the front ones, where his new adult teeth had come in, were actually being left wanting some extra attention. So as all three kids were simultaneously brushing their teeth that evening, I "helped" Luke a little with his front teeth, instructing as I brushed. Now, Luke had a loose tooth; he'd had that loose tooth for a good long while! And as I brushed I knocked it slightly looser and there appeared some blood.

Luke slightly freaking out that he was bleeding, started exclaiming about it. I informed him that the tooth was probably ready to come out and had him pull at it. He squirmed; said he didn't want to, that it hurt, etc. etc. So I asked him if he wanted me to try and he gave me the affirmative and pull I did. It came out very, very, very easily and Luke was well pleased with his lost tooth. He turned to Abby and said, with his bloody mouth: "I beat you!!"

Now Libby is watching the whole scene and is slightly freaked out by the blood and covers her mouth lest one of her teeth fall out.

Abby is bummed. She really wanted her very, very loose tooth to fall out first and "win." So, I ask her if she wanted me to pull out her tooth. She's never let me touch her mouth before but the lure of being even with Luke was very great and she too, gave me the affirmative.

Abby's tooth came out too with just a modicum more of force. She, too, was well pleased with her lost tooth, and called for Daddy while she leaned over the sink with her bleeding mouth.

Poor, poor Libby. You can imagine what a state she was in! Her hand was firmly place over her mouth and she just kept crying "I don't want to loose my teeth!" over and over again. Then she'd talk about blood and teeth and whatnot. I'm sure in her little mind that she thought she was next.
