Luke loves to tell stories. They are usually action-adventure stories dealing with knights, dragons, pirates and dinosaurs. Quite gripping! but often very long with a meandering storyline that would challenge the most ardent of listeners. One evening last week, Luke was telling one of his stories during supper. Mike asked if he could tell a story so he and I could talk about his day. Luke said he had to wait until the end, but Mike pulled out the daddy card and told his story anyway. Luke waited patiently and jumped in when Mike had finished. Suddenly, Abby says she wants to tell a story. Now, Mike and I are VERY interested in what her story would be so we hurriedly agreed.
Abby: There once was a princess dancing on the grass.
She says this as she stares out into the backyard. Mike and I look at each other and smile. Ah, our sweet daughter and her lovely thoughts about princesses and fairy tales.
I reply: Was she a pretty princess?
Abby: Yep and then a dinosaur came and ate her ALL UP!
We laughed about that one for quite awhile! Her brother has obviously influenced her writing style.
Luke really does like stories though. He loves it when we read from their little children's bibles. We just got a couple more for Libby as baby presents. Luke has been enjoying all the pictures and the stories. One afternoon while the girls were both napping, I came downstairs and was listening to some music on the computer. Luke walks in with one of the new bibles. I grab him and we start dancing to some soulful old-school music. When the song ends, Luke sits down and I go to play another mp3. It starts playing and I start dancing motioning for Luke to come join me. He says to me:
Mom, I think we should read the bible instead of listening and dancing to music because, the bible is more important than that.
So, the music went off and we read some. :)
