Yesterday Luke got his shots for school. Does anyone remember getting their shots? I do! Hysterical comes close to describing it. Two people held me down while the nurse gave me a shot in my tush (btw - they now get THREE shots). I was screaming and kicking the whole time. I'm sure the nurse had nightmares from the whole experience. That night, my aunt and uncle came over to visit and saw that I was limping due to the soreness. My aunt was sure something had gone wrong with the shot. Was it infected? Everything was fine and I think I was back to normal in a day or two. The massive amount of soreness probably was due to the fact that I was so tense during the whole ordeal.
Now, here's my firstborn ready to go get his shots. We talk to him about being brave and what's going to happen but he really doesn't seem concerned about the whole deal. We go in and it is time for the shots. He hops right up onto the examination table, lies down. The nurse asks me to hold his arms and tells Luke he can give me a hug during the shots. So that's what we do. Not that he needed to; honestly, he didn't even flinch or gasp. When all was said and done, he jumped down, picked out his pencil and his stickers. Then we went home. No tears, no screams.
I ask, "How are you doing?"
He says "great."
"Are your legs sore?"
"My legs are sore a little bit where she gave me the shot."
"Okay, let's go get some ice cream."
So we went to the McDonald's drive-thru and each got a small chocolate shake. I am supremely happy that Luke didn't inherit certain personality traits from me. Now, Abby, she may be another story. :)
PS - I just want everyone to know that I've toughened up a bit. 2 fillings without novocaine and 3 births later, I just might qualify for the Marines as well ;)

Way To Go Luke. You are a tough little boy. So Mommy can remember her experience. Can Daddy?? I can remember mine a little- The nurse and the room and the needle. But I don't think I was a terrified as your Mommy!!!
LOL!!! It took 3 of us to hold down my eldest! I can also remember my kindergarten shots--horrible and traumatic experience!
What a brave boy! My experience was somewhat like yours, instead of Luke's. I still want to kick and scream but somehow that isn't acceptable for a 31 year old. :)
